Helix Health and Housing Services (Helix) is an innovative, fast-paced human service agency in Minnesota working to eliminate barriers in accessing mental health and housing services to populations throughout Minnesota that are under-served. Helix provides four (4) areas of service across the state of Minnesota: Community-Based Mental Health Services, Targeted Case Management, Community Health Worker Services, and Housing. care that is individualized to meet the needs of people served.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Housing Director plays a vital leadership role in advancing Helix’s mission by overseeing a dynamic portfolio of programs, including community-based housing, the Housing Support Administrative team, and SUDs housing services. This position is responsible for driving high-quality, client-centered operations while leading the successful implementation of new and innovative housing initiatives.
As a strategic and hands-on leader, the Housing Director guides a multidisciplinary team—including program managers, housing consultants, administrative specialists, and direct support staff—ensuring continuity, stability, and excellence during both day-to-day operations and transitional periods. This role is instrumental in shaping service delivery, strengthening client care, and fostering seamless collaboration between housing, clinical, and case management teams.
The Housing Director is also a champion of staff development and organizational culture—ensuring team members are well-trained, supported, and deeply aligned with Helix’s mission, values, and standards of practice. By cultivating a high-performing and mission-driven team, this leader helps create meaningful, lasting impact for the individuals and communities Helix serves.
The Housing Director must be a responsive and adaptable leader, prepared to navigate complex situations and support both staff and clients in real time. This includes the ability to respond to crises and provide leadership support outside of standard business hours, ensuring safety, continuity of care, and program stability.
This role reports directly to the Executive Director and is instrumental in advancing Helix’s mission to deliver equitable, effective, and compassionate housing services to the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Staff Development
Provide visionary leadership and direct supervision to a multidisciplinary team, including managers, clinicians, housing consultants, administrative specialists, and direct support staff.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, growth, and high performance through coaching, mentorship, recognition, and performance management.
Champion staff development by supporting comprehensive onboarding, ongoing training, leadership development, and professional growth opportunities.
Lead and facilitate effective team and program meetings that promote communication, alignment, and cross-functional collaboration.
Model and promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture that prioritizes employee engagement, retention, and organizational excellence.
Program Operations & Service Delivery
Lead the delivery of high-quality, client-centered housing services in alignment with Housing Support and Housing Case Management best practices, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
Ensure all team members effectively manage caseloads and meet performance expectations while balancing quality care with operational efficiency.
Ensure a responsive, respectful, and solution-focused client experience by addressing participant concerns and grievances in a timely manner.
Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary care team that may include therapists, case managers, community health workers, nursing staff, and other service providers to ensure coordinated and holistic care delivery.
Deliver and oversee services using trauma-informed, strength-based, empowerment-focused, and harm-reduction approaches that support client self-determination and trust.
Strategic Leadership & Program Development
Serve as a strategic partner to organizational leadership in driving innovation, program expansion, and the successful implementation of new initiatives that advance Helix’s mission and community impact.
Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of program policies, procedures, and operational workflows.
Lead program evaluation efforts to assess outcomes, measure impact, identify service gaps, and ensure programs remain responsive to community needs.
Support resource development efforts, including grant writing, identifying funding opportunities, securing in-kind resources, and strengthening strategic partnerships.
Represent Helix professionally within the community to strengthen organizational reputation, visibility, and collaborative partnerships.
Compliance, Quality Assurance & Financial Oversight
Oversee program quality and compliance by developing, implementing, and maintaining systems for monitoring, auditing, reporting, and continuous quality improvement.
Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, local, ethical, and organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
Manage program budgets strategically and responsibly to support financial sustainability and operational effectiveness.
Maintain and enhance professional expertise through ongoing education, training, and engagement with current industry best practices.
Community Engagement & Partnership Development
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with landlords, housing providers, community organizations, referral sources, and other stakeholders to expand housing opportunities and strengthen community resources for clients.
Promote collaboration and partnership-building efforts that support organizational growth and improved client outcomes.
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned to support program success, operational needs, and organizational goals.
KNOWLEDGE:
Strong knowledge of Housing Support, Housing Case Management, homelessness services, and community-based behavioral health programming.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction practices, strength-based approaches, and culturally responsive service delivery.
Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to housing services, documentation standards, client confidentiality, and program compliance.
Knowledge of program operations, quality assurance practices, performance metrics, and continuous quality improvement methodologies.
Understanding of case management workflows, multidisciplinary care coordination, and client-centered service planning.
Knowledge of budget oversight, operational planning, and resource allocation within human service or community-based programs.
Familiarity with grant processes, funding opportunities, community partnerships, and program sustainability strategies preferred.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to coach, mentor, develop, and support multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to analyze program data, evaluate service outcomes, identify trends, and make informed operational recommendations.
Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities in fast-paced and evolving environments.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage staff, leadership, clients, community stakeholders, and external partners.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR), Microsoft Office Suite, reporting systems, and data tracking platforms.
Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive or confidential information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree preferred; Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, Human Services, or a related field strongly preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in housing services, behavioral health, homelessness services, or a related field, including direct supervision of multidisciplinary teams.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid driver's license and car insurance for travel between sites and other business-related destinations
Must be able to pass a NetStudy 2.0 background check
Must be free of problematic substance use for at least two years

The position requires the ability to perform various physical tasks essential to job duties. These include, but are not limited to:
Lifting: Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
Bending & Stooping: Frequent bending, kneeling, and stooping may be required to access materials, equipment, or perform job-related tasks.
Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting may be necessary, depending on the nature of work.
Walking & Standing: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including navigating various work environments.
Reaching & Stretching: Occasional reaching overhead or in awkward positions to retrieve or handle materials.
General Mobility: Adequate physical ability to move freely within the workspace and perform assigned duties safely and efficiently.
